2019 TEEN COUNCIL
a Southeast Youth Collaborative (SEYC) program
JUL 1 - AUG 2

The Teen Council is an opportunity for twelve young innovators to step into leadership roles at the Creative Alliance, Baltimore’s premier multi-arts organization! Teen Council members work with the Creative Alliance staff to organize the following projects:

· Teen Imagination Showcase. This teen juried exhibition premiers on Saturday, July 27 with a reception that features youth talent in creative fields such as photography, fashion design, ceramics, music, theater, spoken word, and painting.

· Great Halloween Lantern Parade. Teen Council works with the Lantern Coordinator and Artesanas Mexicanas to recruit volunteers and design and prepare up to prepare 2,000 small lanterns over the summer. Creative Alliance works with 20 teaching artists to produce two-dozen public lantern workshops throughout the month of October. Teen Council interns work with the Lantern Coordinator to prepare for either two-hour workshops or 30-minute decorating stations for families and youth.

· Teen Council members work together to develop new Teen Inclusion programs and policies for Creative Alliance and present them at a Teen Luncheon to local community leaders.

· Teen Council members are trained to be program assistants in our youth education literacy and arts program called Open Minds. Open Minds is our signature Youth Education program where we combine youth leadership, literacy, and visual and performing arts twice a week! Every summer we partner with the Enoch Pratt Free libraries and this year we present the theme, “A Universe of Stories!”

Teen Council members assist lead instructors with language, culinary, visual and performing arts for grades 3 - 5 to children twice a week from 1-3 pm. Set up is at noon and clean up by 4pm. The Teen Council organizes the children’s artwork, leads promotion, curates, labels, and hangs the artwork for a final exhibition celebrating the program. The Summer Youth Finale is at Creative Alliance on Saturday, August 17th.
