The Creative Alliance Resident Artist Program is a collaborative residency that fosters creativity, production, inspiration, and conversation. For over 10 years the resident artist program at the Patterson has supported artists from Baltimore, the nation, and beyond.
The program is located on the second floor of The Patterson, a historic former movie theater located in the Baltimore neighborhood of Highlandtown. Converted into a community arts facility the Creative Alliance includes two galleries, a 200-seat flexible theater, a classroom, live/work studios for 8 artists, and the Marquee Lounge.
The Program accommodates eight resident artists, one in each of the studios, for terms of one to three years. It is intended for emerging artists as well as mid-career artists whose goal is to reinvigorate their work in an intensive creative atmosphere. Artists are encouraged (but not required) to use the studios as their primary residence.
The resident artist supports the Creative Alliance by paying a subsidized rent. Resident artists are expected to actively work on their art practice, showcase their work at Creative Alliance, and participate in resident artist gatherings. In turn, the Creative Alliance supports the artist with professional development, studio visits with leaders in the artworld, trips to immerse in art mediums around Baltimore and the DMV, connections to other art production services, and a sense of community that extends beyond the artists' time at Creative Alliance.
