Events at Creative Alliance

5-8PM | Creative Alliance’s Marquee Lounge is open for In The Medium, a new craft night!
Gather with fellow artists, makers, and crafters to work on current projects or start something new. This night is for everyone, from dabblers to professionals. Let’s hang out and make something fun!

630PM | Main Gallery | The Protection of Lowly Gods | Artist Talk w/ MJ Neuberger

Join Artist and former Creative Alliance Resident Artist in conversation about her work in “The protection of lowly gods” on display in our main gallery. She discusses themes around the World Fair, colonialism, materiality, and piña cloth.

MJ Neuberger’s work arises from ritual attempts to return to a body abandoned in trauma that she traces in part to colonial history in her mother’s native Philippines. Referencing indigenous ceremonies and elemental processes and incorporating found and organic materials, including her hair, Neuberger’s interactive and light-based installations and sculptural and image-based works acknowledge shared vulnerability and suggest reconnection with an indigenous, nature-based self as a path toward integrating trauma stemming from race and gender-based violence and broader cultural aggression.

730PM | Amalie Rothschild Gallery | Cyber Strays | Artist Talk w/ Seung Jun Lee and Guided Movement Exercise w/ Bao Nguyen

Following the vocal lead of experimental vocalist and artist Bao Nguyen as a warm-up, sitting in a circle, we will dive into a conversation with Seung Jun Lee about his fascination with the mystical animals in Korean tradition and the supernatural creatures, “cyber strays”, in his drawings.

Bao Nguyen (they/them) is a new media artist, experimental vocalist and curator born in Vietnam and based in Baltimore. Through performance, sound, video and interactive media, Bao’s practice examines oral traditions to reconsider the history of Vietnamese nation-building and devise new connections between ourselves and the landscape. They have exhibited in the U.S and abroad, including shows at Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and Ewha Woman University, Korea. In 2022, they were awarded the Judson-Morrissey Excellence in New Media Award from the New Media Caucus. Bao recently completed their residency at Yale Norfolk Summer School of Art.

Art Walk is FREE to attend, with drink and food specials at restaurants and bars like Snake Hill, Sally O’s, and IndoViet. The Art Walk is self-guided —check out the Art Walk Map for venue locations and details to plan your night!
