A livelier life drawing event, Dr. Sketchy's is where artists of all levels draw fabulous burlesque and variety performers. Enjoy delicious cocktails and a performance by the model, and compete in zany drawing contests to win free drinks and other awesome prizes from our amazing sponsor, Rust-N-Shine! We'll start off with quick 1- and 2-minute gesture poses and gradually move up to 20-minute sketches. No drawing experience is necessary; just bring your own drawing materials—and cash tips for our model—and join us for some fun figure sketching practice!
For our next fun night of sipping and sketching, we’re excited to have local burlesque star Ruby Rockafella as our amazing model/performer!
Here’s more information on our May muse:
Ruby Rockafella began performing burlesque in 2012, and she started producing shows in Baltimore in 2014. In December 2015, she was crowned Princess of the Great Southern Exposure Burlesque & Variety Pageant, after performing her original act based on the story of the Black Dahlia. In 2016, she was featured in The Baltimore Sun's Darkroom blog for her Blaze Starr tribute photoshoot with renowned photographer Steve Parke. She produced Lush Burlesque & Variety, a vintage-style cabaret at 13.5% Wine Bar, from 2016 to 2018, and she is a founding member of the burlesque teaching collective, Essential Tease.
Known as “a master of character and costume” (TheatreBloom), her acts range from lovely to bizarre. Ruby, like any precious stone, loves to shine. She also likes to put shiny things on her crotch. Brightest Young Things says she "oozes silent charisma.” Ruby now spends most of her time with her two small children and working part-time at Creative Alliance. She is very excited to return to pose for you after withering away from lack of glitter and applause during the pandemic!
Doors at 6:30—show up early to get a good seat! 18+ to draw, 21+ to drink.
BYO drawing supplies. No photography or messy paints, please (watercolors are fine).
