About Sidewalk Serenades:

Creative Alliance believes that a Baltimore without live performances is a Baltimore without joy – and we won’t stand for that!

As you likely know, working musicians, dancers, magicians, burlesque performers, aerialists, and other performance-based artists have had their gigs and their livelihoods cancelled for the foreseeable future. Join Creative Alliance in creating performance opportunities for these artists throughout Baltimore while simultaneously respecting the need for everyone to keep a safe distance.

Beginning this week Creative Alliance will offer you the opportunity to have a short performance with two to three songs delivered to the front of your home (or a friend/loved one’s home) for a small fee.

Performers will come to the confirmed address, text the residence upon arrival and, like a burst of sunlight through these gray skies, share their talents from the sidewalk. The donations from each of these performance events will be shared between the artist and Creative Alliance to help keep the arts alive and thriving in Baltimore!

The Basics:

  • Performers will come to the front of your (or loved ones) home and will perform for 10-15 minutes.
  • Concerts will be scheduled on the hour, and you can purchase them at the Creative Alliance website.
  • Sales end when each slot is booked OR 8am day of the concerts.
  • If there is poor weather, concerts will be rescheduled to the next nice day

What if I want to purchase a concert for someone else???

  • Just leave the name, address, and cell number of the person the concert is for in the COMMENTS Section when you check out online.

What if I live in an apartment?

  • Performers will not enter an apartment or shared home but can perform in front of the complex

What if I would like a performance but just can't afford it at this time?

  • While there is a fee per concert, there are opportunities for those without the means to still have some music in their lives. Musicians have been asking to do additional performance gratis in such a case for the community. If you are in need or work at an organization where you still need to congregate (a hospital, perhaps) and have a safe space for a performance to occur, reach out to ari@creativealliance.org to coordinate.

About ellen and Andrew:

ellen cherry  is an award winning Song & Story Alchemist, musician and performer, based in Baltimore, MD.   Mixing equal parts of pathos and humor throughout her songs, her singular voice and her banter gives audiences a peek into a whimsical, curious mind. After a devastating car wreck caused by an intoxicated driver in 2013, cherry was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and has spent the last seven years fostering recovery and resilience, her own and others, through performance, music, and storytelling.  Once a year, she swims a long distance in a large body of water.

Andrew Grimm is the singer-songwriter behind the long running Baltimore, Maryland band, June Star.  For nearly 20 years he has been blurring country and rock and roll sounds while writing songs about love, reminiscent of The Replacements, Lou Reed, and Jimmie Rodgers.  Whether with a band or solo acoustic, Grimm's words and voice cut with immediacy and emotion; his performances invite the listener to see where it hurts and how it gets better.
