Creative Alliance proudly presents the two person exhibition RESPLENDENT by artists Mattye Hamilton and Kate Norris from July 8 – 30, 2016 in the Amalie Rothschild Gallery. Hamilton’s figurative and Norris’ abstract paintings are both inspired by nature and its bounty of patterns and textures.
Mattye Hamilton uses luscious, unexpected combinations of color, pattern, and line, infusing her work with equal measures of nature and style. She balances this against the placement of figures. Hamilton received her BFA in painting from The Maryland Institute College of Art in 1994. Her work has most recently been exhibited at Fleckenstein Gallery, the Alchemy of Art, MAXgallery, and Columbia Center for the Arts. Her work has also been published in several magazines, including Shape magazine, MS, Baltimore Magazine.
Kate Norris examines the relationship between realism and abstraction and their dual processes using nature as a touchstone. Norris received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and her BA from Stanford University. Her work has been shown in New York, Baltimore, Tampa and the San Francisco Bay area. Norris lives in northern Maryland and teaches in Baltimore County Public Schools. In 2015, she was recognized as Baltimore County New Middle School Teacher of the Year.
