Appalachia-gone-Afro-Brazilian barnstormers join forces with Baltimore’s own Brazilian vocal treasure for a night of dance and revelry.
With an accordion anchored sound drawing on Northeastern Brazil’s folkloric rhythms like forró, maracatu, or coco, and on deep Americana—from bluegrass to spirituals to swampy Louisiana jams—Matuto (a Northeastern Brazilian slang term for “bumpkin”) uses unexpected Pan-American sounds to craft appealing, fun and rootsy music. For their second trip to the Patterson, they are once again joined by Baltimore’s Rose Moraes, our own bossa nova and samba powerhouse Brazilian vocalist. 7:30PM forro dance lesson, 8:00PM show $15, $12 mbrs; Doors: $18, $15 mbrs
