Making their Baltimore debut a duo of actors from Romania’s accomplished Passé-Partout, DP Theatre dispenses with spoken language in Two of Us. They use acting, physical movement, a varied dance vocabulary (tango, tap), martial arts, and clever use of minimal theatrical sets to tell a vibrant love story that is rich in both dark nuance and frothing whimsy. Founded in 1999 by Romanian actor/director Dan Puric, Passé-Partout is widely respected in the vibrant Eastern European theater scene for pioneering performance that doesn’t rely on spoken language and so transcends nationalistic boundaries.
Opening is Marylander Andrea Chastant Burkholder of Arachne Aerial Arts debuting a short preview of her developing aerial theater piece Mississippi. A Cajun native of Lafayette Louisiana, Andrea looks at the great and mighty river that has so enriched yet so devastated her home state. Coursing to the music of Feufollet and David Greeley, Burkholder’s performance on aerial apparatus above the audience is part lullaby, part cautionary tale as it rues the loss of traditional Louisiana culture and cries for its defense.
This evening is presented by QuestFest a two-week long international visual theater festival which strips away the artifice of language, building bridges between disparate communities and cultures.7:30pm $16, $11 mbrs & stus.
