The music of the American upland south moved up from Appalachia to the streets of Baltimore in the middle half of the 20th century, where old time and bluegrass musicians put their own charm city spin on roots music. Since those heady days, some 75 years ago, the sounds of the fiddle and banjo, along with ballad singing, country song, flatfoot dance, and community social “square” dancing, have moved into pockets of America, far and wide, where virtuosic musicians have made it their own.
