Overview SOLD OUT w/Waiting List- World Refugee Day: Baltimore Showcase w/ Anansegromma

Film, live music, dance, craft market and food by Baltimore's newest Americans!

It's an international evening that launches with documentary shorts by refugee youth. The first filmmaker is Evodie Ngoy, 14 years old and a native of the Democratic Republic of Congo. She premieres her second film "The Paradise that Wasn't" with Justin Burns, African-American teenage filmmaker, with mentorship from Wide Angle Youth Media. "Soccer without Borders" by Jeremy Jue, is an uplifting story of how soccer has been organized as a healing tool to help refugees and immigrants adjust to life in Baltimore. Panel discussion follows.

Live music! Recently arrived Kurdish refugees and international stars, Ghazi Ahmed and Ali Omar perform on oud and saz. Iranian native Sina Navazi, International Rescue Committee Case Manager by day, plays acoustic on kamancheh and accompaniment by flamenco-style guitar. Rounding out the evening, Native Ghanaians Kofi Dennis and Kwame Ansah-Brew are Anansegromma, the “royal elders” of their West African village, and astounding call-and-response drummers, storytellers and dancers.

Come early for Disappearing Islands, closing reception for first all-female VisionWorkshops & National Geographic Photo Camp exhibition by Refugee Youth Project & Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women. International cuisine, craft market and Bhutanese performers on madal and tablas during reception in Amalie Rothschild (ARG) gallery on 2nd floor. 6pm reception in ARG and global craft market in lobby, 7:30pm show. FREE!

Event is SOLD OUT, please arrive by 6:30pm to be on a waiting list! Call or email us with questions 410-276-1651, info@creativealliance.org.
