Winners of the prestigious 2009 Sondheim Prize, Baltimore Development Cooperative (BDC) gathers a caucus of artists, educators, activists, urban planners, gardeners, and chefs to convert the Creative Alliance’s Main Gallery at The Patterson into the headquarters for a celebratory, mobile farmers market – selling food, sharing ideas, and shedding light on the limited availability of fresh, healthy food to most city residents. Along with food carts made of bicycles, grocery carts and modified hot dog carts, are video, photographs, artworks and information that provide a small taste of the booming local healthy food movement. Over the course of the exhibition, the carts and trailers leave the building to visit neighborhoods and festivals, with fresh produce and a revolving assortment of activities and information.
THE FOOD NETWORK is organized by Scott Berzofsky, Hannah Brancato, Dane Nester, Kitt Repass, Kyle Smith, Nick Petr, Michael Petruzzo, and Nick Wisnewski.
MOBILE MARKET #1 is scheduled to travel through Waverly Oct 2. Click the link below for details.
THE FOOD NETWORK opened Sat Sep 18, in conjunction with the preview screening of Cafeteria Man, the anticipated documentary about Tony Geraci’s campaign to reform the food in the Baltimore City Public Schools system.
