Known around the world as The Amazing Half-Man, Johnny Eck was born just north of Patterson Park in 1911 and went on to act in Hollywood, exhibit himself with Robert “believe it or not” Ripley and entertain audiences nationwide with his orchestra, magic shows, acrobatic feats, photography, paintings and more. He was a master wood carver, puppeteer, race car driver, train conductor and storyteller, one of the last true Renaissance men. Eck memorabilia from Jeffrey Pratt Gordon’s Johnny Eck Musuem including photographs, personal objects and painted screens that are masterworks of the genre, are exhibited for the first time in Baltimore, accompanied by a tribute performance and a screening of Tod Browning’s 1932 Freaks, as part of the screen painting festival Rowhouse Rembrandts. Sat May 10 Freaks Screening 5:30pm, Eck Tribute 8pm.
