Founded in 1925, the spritely Baltimore Mandolin Orchestra includes 32 musicians playing a world class collection of vintage mandolins, mandolas, mando cellos and mando basses. Directed by Dave Evans, this charming, eclectic program celebrates spring with Sousa marches, the Bullfrog Blues rag, a Rogers and Hammerstein medley and City by the Sea, a song penned for the BMO by the late Baltimore native, composer and pianist Sid Shapiro. As ever, the high voltage star of the show is BMO’s vocalist, the Naples-born, Peabody trained lyric soprano Beatrice Gilbert.
