On View at the Amalie Rothschild Gallery: Aug 18 – Sep 9
Reception: Fri, Aug 18 | 6 – 8pm
Featuring new work created at a residency in Puebla, Mexico, artist Mia Halton provides a reflection of her experience in the form of ceramic faces and figures set against a painted backdrop of Puebla itself. Prints and drawings line the walls on either side, further exploring her experience of Encounters between American and Mexican cultures.
Join Halton in a workshop special to this exhibition by helping her to create an onsite installation within Encounters! As part of the exhibit, a “wall of humanity” will be co-created by workshop participants, mimicking Halton’s expressive yet simplified clay faces. Participants will be provided with clay to make a multitude of depictions that will be fired and subsequently added to the show with the help of Highlandtown-based ceramicist Dennis Moore. At the end of the exhibition, all participants will be able to take their contributions home!
