Charm City Ukulele Festival -Workshops
Admission fee grants access to all of these workshops, take as many or few as you’d like:

Most classes are limited to 30 participants, placement is first come first served.

‘AUANA HULA WORKSHOP W/ JEANNIE VIEVE ANDRES-WALTRIP
Noon–2:00pm in the Theater
Jeannie Vieve Andres-Waltrip is an accomplished dancer and teacher for Halau O ‘Aulani in the D.C. area. She will teach the elements of hula to include basic hand and foot motions and their meanings. The hula will then be performed with Glen Hirabayashi in the evening.
GETTING STARTED ON UKULELE W/ JARED DENHARD
3:00-3:45pm in the Classroom
Jared Denhard, Director of the Baltimore Ukulele Symphonette, will teach the basics of ukulele, including tuning, really useful chords, and an introduction to reading uke tablature.
GREAT STRUMMING TECHNIQUES! W/ JARED DENHARD
4:00-4:45pm in the Classroom
Everybody’s favorite workshop, for all levels. Learn the split-stroke (Formby style), Reggae, Waltz and Swing strumming patterns to make your uke accompaniments really shine!
125 YEARS OF UKULELE W/ DON PEYTON
4:00-4:45pm in the Media Lab
Don Peyton, Master of ceremonies for the Charm City Uke Fest, will provide a historic overview of ukulele music, including Hawaiian music of the 1910s, Tin Pan Alley, Crooners of the ‘30s, Hapa Haouli of the ‘40s and ‘50s and ‘60s Pop.
