The Circus Animals
a Romance about a Tragedy about some friends making a movie
Filmed on location in Baltimore by up-and-coming filmmaker Nicholas Clift Bateman, The Circus Animals is a poetic, lyrically ambitious portrait of a group of friends drinking, loving and making a movie. The actors are double as producers of the film, recording the process on camera, and the cinematography is lush, romantic and self-consciously nostalgic. Ryan Syrek of Omaha Reader says “The Circus Animals is almost too personal. The passion is felt in every frame, hazy glance, and strained sound.” Bateman’s next project, a period epic called Songs at the End of the Sea, films in Baltimore this Fall.
